Drug Crimes

Drug Possession It is illegal to willfully possess an illegal controlled substance like marijuana, cocaine, LSD, heroin and Ecstasy. Additionally, it is illegal to possess "precursor" chemicals used in cultivating and manufacturing illegal controlled substances as well as possessing specific accessories related to drug use. Punishments vary according to drug type, amount and geographic area of the offense. Possession of large amounts of illegal controlled substances may be charged as "possession with intent to distribute." Drug Cultivation and Manufacturing In California it is a crime to grow, produce and possess certain plants and other naturally occurring elements used in producing illegal controlled substances like cannabis and marijuana plants. It is also illegal to produce illegal controlled substance like cocaine methamphetamine, LSD and Ecstasy. Drug Distribution / Trafficking It is illegal to sell, transport and illegally import into the United States illegal controlled substances like marijuana, methamphetamine, cocaine, LSD, Ecstasy and heroin. Punishments vary according to drug type, amount, geographic area of distribution and whether minors were sold to or targeted.
